Intuitive Motherhood

I trusted my intuition and pulled my daughter out of school.

In grade 6, my daughter was severely bullied by someone who was supposed to be her best friend in school.

This girl was the kind of girl who turned heads when she walked in the room. She was adorable and she knew how to command attention. Her magnetism had kids desperate to be her friend, giving her a lot of power with her peers and because of this, a little playground disagreement between two girls quickly blew up to involve many classes and grade levels.

To make matters even worse, this girl’s mother worked at the school, so when I went to the teacher and principal for help, we were ignored. The teacher even tried to convince my daughter that she was the one causing drama.

My daughter started begging to stay home every day, visibly shattered at what was happening and after she got followed on her way home one day, kids shouting at her, I just knew deep in my soul that I couldn’t ignore her pleas.

I haven’t felt very aligned with the public school system for a long time. While there are some amazing individuals who truly care about making a difference, these wonderful teachers are few and far between.

After watching 6 of my children go through school, I feel like the system at it’s core is failing children, and it’s even more apparent that the system is designed to create humans who are disconnected from their hearts.

It was nearing the end of the school year at this point, so I decided to pull her out of school right away, but not without testing my theory that the school was ignoring my daughter first: I never notified the school. Not a call to say she was going to be absent, or never returning. I just fully ghosted them.

And they never once called to check on her or ask where she was.

I researched many private and alternative schools to help support my daughter with learning and settled on Richardson Montessori.

This is a program with soul. It is beautifully personalized, unique to each child’s academic needs, as well as supporting their interests and enthusiasm for learning, but what truly makes it all worth it is that it supports growth on a human level, leading children to ask themselves “What contribution can I make to the grand and beautiful panorama of life on Earth?”

It’s wonderful to have found something that is so aligned with our values and supports the vision I have always shared with my kids that you do what you can to leave this world and people here, better than they were when you arrived.

This is of course, an extreme story, but I wanted to share this example because I think it’s so important for us as mothers to strengthen our intuition and trust in our inner knowing that while we do know our children better than anyone else, our children aren’t ours. They are for the world and their lives are their own. This allows us to be supportive and unattached to what we think they should be in this lifetime, and instead we connect to them on a soul level, in an effort to support their soul’s true path.
